5 Tips for staying healthy this winter.
As we are now well and truly into the winter months (boy its cold), it shouldn’t come as a surprise when it comes around ever year. We still need to be reminded about ways to stay healthy and keeping that winter weight off.
Keep Moving
When the winter months set in all we want to do is lie under the doona, but remember it is just as important to keep your body moving. Whether it is a walk/jog with friends or swimming in the heated pool. There is so many different type of exercise we can do indoors. Pilates, yoga, weight training are all great forms of exercise for our body. Remember winters training= summer’s body!
Hydration
Our bodies are made up of 80% water, so staying hydrated is so important. Especially in winter when we are constantly in heating, which can dry out our skin. Drinking 2-3 litres of water daily will keep you energized and keep your body and skin hydrated. Staying hydrated is also good for our muscles and bones.
Healthy eating
When were cold all we want to do is eat food that will comfort us. These foods are often high in saturated fats, sugar and salt. Instead of reaching for a packet of chips or a big bowl of pasta, ensure you are eating a diet high in vegetables and fruits that are packed with vitamins and minerals essential for our body.
Stay away from the germs.
Sometimes it’s not easy to avoid the common cold or the flu, especially when the person next to you at work is coughing and spluttering all over your desk. Be sure to always wash your hands, keep supplements such as vitamin c, zinc and Echinacea handy so when the symptoms start you can hit them head on quickly.
Vitamin D
Although it’s freezing outside, it is still very important that you are getting your daily dose of vitamin D. Of course this can be hard when there is no sun and it’s pouring for days on end. Get yourself a good vitamin D supplement, and when the sun starts shinning make sure you get out into it!
Hope these few little tips get you through the winter months, sickness free! Staying healthy is important, as a healthy body= healthy mind 🙂
